Who says you can’t start healthy habits during the last month of the year? This pandemic has taught us to value our time and our health more, so let’s not wait for New Year to start our healthy lifestyle resolution. Oh, and also, let’s admit it, we tend to abandon these resolutions come February!
To start a healthy lifestyle, we must be intentional with our steps and habits. We must commit to honoring ourselves. We have to start with something – check out this list we have below to jumpstart your healthy lifestyle:
1. EAT MINDFULLY
Starting a healthy lifestyle will always include our eating habits. We cannot begin and sustain a healthy lifestyle when we are not mindful of what we put in our bodies. Eating healthier options that are less processed and more nutritious is always a good way to start. We know it’s very overwhelming at first because you don’t know where to start or what to buy. Fear not, because we have a couple of goodies that will not only help you but will surely delight you.
We suggest starting with our Superfood Starter Set that includes the most commonly used superfoods such as muesli, flax & chia seeds, cacao nibs, and coconut flakes. You can use these for smoothie bowls, chia pudding, overnight muesli, and more!
Bonus: You can access our Feel Good Recipe eBook to get ideas on how to use these!
When it comes to our eating habits, simple swaps and everyday discipline go a long way!
2. DRINK MORE WATER OFTEN
Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! We hear this too often and with very good reason. Our body is roughly 60% water, so drinking enough water is essential to keep our bodies functioning at their best. It also helps our bodies to flush out waste and toxins more effectively.
Most experts recommend the 8 x 8 rule for easy remembering: 8 glasses of 8 ounces each day. However, our individual water needs can still vary based on our activity level, age, sex, weight, and climate where we live.
One way you can increase your daily water intake is by carrying a reusable water bottle everywhere you go so you can sip water throughout the day. You can also cut back on sugary beverages. If you want that little burst of flavor, consider partnering plain water with fresh fruits or herbs.
Bonus: You can also add a tablespoon of chia seeds with 8 to 10 ounces of plain water to help you feel fuller longer. Just take it slowly first to check how your body tolerates them.
3. GET ENOUGH SLEEP
According to the Mayo Clinic, sleep is the foundation for all our healthy habits and decisions. Thus, we must get this habit down as a lack of it greatly affects our mood and our health negatively. Experts suggest aiming to get at least seven hours a night. Sleep allows our body some downtime to recover, rest and be ready for the next day. Having a revitalizing sleep helps us make smarter decisions in our diet and exercise plans and boosts our energy and motivation for the day making it easier to stay on track with our goals.
4. INCREASE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
We know we need to exercise and work out, but we always have tons of excuses not to do so – too busy, not motivated enough, don’t know where to begin, etc. But workout doesn’t have to be complicated at all. Exercise, really, is just movement. So how to start? Increase your daily steps. Do household chores. Find a physical activity you truly enjoy so it doesn’t feel much of a chore. It doesn’t have to be a strenuous activity; it just needs to be something that will keep you moving.
Starting and sustaining a healthy lifestyle begins with everyday choices. So, what are we waiting for? If not now, when? A better, healthier version of you is just one healthy habit away!
